Experts say that with the periodic examination they not only can detect disease early but also sometimes stop it before it starts. It is strongly advocated that an annual check-up, where the patient discusses his various health concerns with the doctor should be given its own dedicated time. Doctors and patients usually spend very little time together- usually an entire visit to the doctor is spent for discussing the current illness with the patient. It would be much better if both set aside time once a year to ensure how to proactively maintain good health, rather than just reacting and responding to problems as they occur.

A balanced diet, regular exercise and early detection of potential health problems through annual checkups are the recipe to good family health. No one should be afraid to volunteer information about health and lifestyle to their physician. An open exchange between patient and doctor not only reveals concerns that might otherwise stay hidden but also encourages people to take more responsibility for their own health. This kind of discussion gives people and physicians a chance to develop a bond that can be a real advantage if a serious illness strikes.

The value of a preventive health check-up should not be questioned. Some economists suggest that the cost is too high for the benefits gained. But, there is just no substitute for patients and doctors seeing each other face-to-face especially when there is no specific health problem that takes priority.

It is barely an effort to devote half a day in an entire year for your well being!
